THE TRAINS HAVE CARTOON TAMAS ON THEM

image

Sad update everyone, Tama recently passed away… An estimated 3,000 people, including railway officials, attended Tama the cat’s funeral on Sunday, days after she died of heart failure aged 16. [x]

For those who haven’t read articles about it, the local shrine elevated her to a god. She’s now the Eternal Stationmaster and patron god of the station.

Beautiful.

Now I’m crying thanks

and a new cat was hired right?

yep! her name is Nitama (essentially ”second tama” or “tama II”) and she served under Tama as an apprentice before being appointed her deputy

she works very hard

Everytime this crosses my dash, I reblog. It is the law.

Law

I’m crying at 11pm over train cats

In lieu of a huge dash-stretching twitter screenshot thread I’m just gonna copy/paste the tweets I made:

We all make fun of tumblr and say it’s worthless but literally no other site lets you make and interact with posts like that Longform writing with cutoffs, images, audio with text comments, video, the ability to add inline images

Twitter has 2 of those things and no easy way to view comments

The culture around adding a comment for your followers but not anyone else’s is also gone now, since tags on tiwtter are embedded into the tweet itself and not a supplemental addon.

Tumblr is my favorite social network for precisely how much freedom you have in how you make a post and in how easy it is to share said posts

Also: Chronological timeline and private likes and following lists with built-in separation of various accounts means that I didn’t have to have 3 fucking emails if I wanted to keep my horny off main

Fully customization themes and tag filtering ALSO means that artists have lost a really good way to have an all-inclusive gallery that lets them interact with their followers while filtering the art by finished pieces, sketches, stupid doodles, etc

Tumblr is a genuinely great social network and it’s really fucking saddening to watch the staff annihilate it with the orbital laser

In short:

Thank you tumblr user hustlerose for summarizing and also allowing me to show off two things I’m gonna miss about tumblr: inline images and links

You know what sucks the most…

…about Tumblr removing adult content? It’s that this place was more than just about porn. Its where I gained my first semblance of confidence. It’s where i found that people appreciated guys like me. I wasn’t just the ugly fat guy that I felt I was. People liked me for who I am and how I looked and slowly I started to believe the possitive things people said about me. I was lucky enough to experience that, and so I’ll personaly be fine. But the idea that someone who has no self worth or self esteem can’t come here to experience that same sense of pure acceptance for who they are just doesn’t seem fair to me, because I honestly don’t know what I would have done without this place.

Tumblr was a refuge for a lot of people. It was a means to express themselves sexually without ridicule or judgement. It helped people grow and feel good about themselves. It’s not just about the loss of some cheap titillation for a lot of people. It’s been way more important than that and it’s a shame they’re willing to sacrifice all of it just because they couldn’t keep a handle on their porn bot problem.

That time tumblr effectively killed their site and gave Twitter a huge boost in users. Just to get back on the app store.
